Legal document delivery to a person, a place and a time that will not move
DocumentJet delivers legal documents internationally to a named recipient by a dedicated flight courier, with the pickup and delivery windows shown before you book and a documented handover at the end. The service is planned around the recipient's deadline: a hearing, a closing, a notary appointment, a registry cutoff.
Delivery window in local time
Before you book, you see when the document will arrive at the recipient, in their time zone, against your deadline.
To the person you name
The courier hands over to the individual in the booking, or to a representative you approve, and records who took it.
Proof that fits a case file
Recipient name, time, place, signature or photo, sent to you on delivery. Handover to an official carries their name and reference instead.
The sending side of a legal delivery is easy to organize: someone in your office puts the documents in an envelope. The receiving side is where things go wrong. The counterpart's office has a reception that signs for everything and files it in a tray. The notary is in the building only on Tuesday afternoons. The registry closes at 3 pm and the courier landed at 2:20 pm with a forty-minute taxi ride ahead. This page is about the receiving side, and about planning a delivery from the deadline backwards.
Planning back from the deadline
01
Fix the moment, not the day
"By Thursday" is not a deadline; "on the closing agent's desk before the 10 am call on Thursday" is. Registries, courts and notaries keep hours. Find out the last time the document can be physically received and used that day, and treat that as the target.
02
Check the quote against it
Enter both addresses. The delivery window is in the recipient's local time. If the window ends before your target, book. If it straddles it, you are relying on the early end of a window and should look at sending a day earlier. If it starts after, a courier does not solve this and you need a different plan: a local counterpart signing counterparts, a scan the other side will accept provisionally, or moving the meeting.
03
Name the receiving person and a fallback
Tell us who must receive it, their direct phone, and whether anyone else may. "Ms. Okafor at Reception may sign" saves a delivery if the named lawyer is in a meeting. "Only Mr. Lindqvist, nobody else" is also fine; the courier will wait or call. Silence on this point means the courier uses judgment, and judgment is what you are trying to remove.
04
Tell the recipient a courier is coming
And roughly when. A receiving office that expects a hand delivery around 11 am puts the courier through. One that does not may send them to a mailroom.

What happens if the timing slips after booking
Two moments matter. Within about 30 minutes of booking, operations confirms the courier and the flights. If the achievable arrival is more than four hours later than the end of the window you were shown, you are told and can cancel without charge; if the flights cost more than the estimate, likewise. That is your last free exit, so check the confirmed arrival against your deadline when it arrives.
After confirmation, if a flight is cancelled or delayed, operations rebooks the courier onto the fastest alternative and sends you the new arrival time. We cannot prevent airline disruption, but a courier in a terminal is far easier to reroute than an envelope in a cargo container, and you hear about it from a person, not from a tracking page.
What the proof of delivery contains
Recipient name, delivery time and location, and a signature or a photograph of the handover, sent to you when the courier confirms delivery. Where the document is handed to an official, for instance at a court counter or a border point, the record carries the representative's name, department and badge or reference number instead. Together with the collection record and the courier's itinerary, this is a continuous account of who held the document from your office to theirs, which is normally what a file needs.
What delivery does not include
The courier delivers to a person or an office. Filing at a registry, service of process, witnessing or notarization are not part of the service and in most places may only be done by a licensed person. If that person is the recipient, we deliver to them; the step after the handover is theirs.
Questions people ask about this
Who will my document be handed over to?
If you select Person as the recipient, we will normally hand the document only to the individual identified in your booking. If you want to authorize another person to receive it, please contact us before delivery. If you select Company, the shipment may be handed over to an authorized representative of that organization, such as reception, security, office or warehouse personnel. If delivery must be made to a specific individual, please tell us in advance. For hotel deliveries, please specify whether reception or concierge staff are permitted to accept the shipment. For airport deliveries, the document may be handed over to the named recipient or, where necessary and appropriate, to an airline, airport, immigration or border-control representative.
Will I receive proof of delivery?
Yes. We document the final handover. Depending on the circumstances, proof of delivery may include the recipient name, signature, photograph of the handover, delivery time and location or other confirmation appropriate to the recipient. Where lawful and appropriate, additional identity verification may be documented. If the document is handed to an authority or official representative, alternative confirmation such as the representative's name, department or badge/reference number may be recorded.
How fast can DocumentJet deliver my passport or document?
On the same day or by the next day — for most major international routes. For example, a document collected in Europe can often be delivered to the U.S. on the same calendar day because of the time difference, while many U.S.–Europe deliveries arrive the next day due to flight schedules and time zones. Actual delivery time depends on the pickup location, courier availability, available flights and the final handover location. Your instant quote shows an estimated pickup and delivery window before you book, and our 24/7 Operations Center confirms the final itinerary after booking.
What happens if the courier's flight is cancelled or delayed?
Our 24/7 Operations Center monitors the courier's journey throughout the shipment. If a flight is cancelled, significantly delayed or disrupted, our team will evaluate the fastest practical alternative. This may include rebooking the courier onto another flight, changing the routing or making other operational arrangements. We will inform you of significant changes and provide an updated ETA. As with any service that relies on commercial passenger flights, DocumentJet cannot prevent airline cancellations, weather disruptions, airport closures or other circumstances outside our control. A delay alone does not entitle you to a refund; if the delivery cannot be completed, our Terms & Conditions set out what is refunded.
